A new kind of tiny home was unveiled at the recent International Builders Show in Las Vegas.

The modular home is the flagship product from start-up company Boxabl out of Los Angeles and is called The Casita.

“We have spent the last several years doing research and development and have engineered a breakthrough solution to rapidly build high-quality affordable housing,” says Galiano Tiramani, head of business development at Boxabl. “This product has the potential to improve the lives of millions of people.”

The homes are 400 sq. ft. (a 20 x 20 footprint), with nine-and-a-half-ft.-high ceilings and come complete with fridge, stove, washer/dryer, bathroom, kitchen and much more, says Tiramani.

“Affordable living can be luxurious in a Boxabl Casita,” he says. “Boxabl buildings are more durable and energy-efficient than traditional homes. They are built using a new construction method that makes them resistant to fire, floods, rot, pests, high winds and more.”

The units are designed for the backyards of larger homes and are delivered complete at a price of US$50,000.

The Casita is the first of more to come, says Tiramani.

“The Boxabl Casita is the first product in a line of room modules that stack and combine to build any custom building,” he says. “The Boxabl system combines factory mass production with high-quality building methods that mean customers get higher quality buildings for less.”

For the moment, the tiny homes are available only in the United States, however, Tiramani says they should be available in Canada within a year.
